Welcome to Sterling. Sterling is a home rule community. The total area is 6.9 square miles. The original inhabitants were of the Colorado high plains. The Native Americans were of the Clovis culture. Then the French came as fur trappers. They were searching for beaver streams in the late 1700s. The tribes of the area lived around the Overland trail. The Union Pacific railroad came through here. A trip to Sterling may include an exploration of the high plains culture and the history of this region. There are museums that capture the fur trapper culture, also.

This area has small shops and museums to explore. Going through a small town shop may be a fun experience. Antiques may be found that would be unavailable elsewhere. The small restaurants have a friendly and close atmosphere that may be appealing to some. Exploring such a town has its appeal to many. Children and adolescents often like the quaintness of the town and its shops.
