Durango, Colorado is located on the southwest corner of the state of Colorado and is less than 350 miles from Denver. There are about 17,000 people living in the city. The city is named after Durango, Mexico. It is sister cities with Durango, Mexico and Durango, Spain.

There are a number of parks in and around the city of Durango. At the Animas River, families and individuals can go boating, whitewater rafting and fishing. There are hiking paths along the river. In addition to this, people can go tubing down the river. Fassbinder Park is a great place for a picnic and has a playground and many other amenities. The Riverview Sports Complex has a number of fields from which to play various sports activities. Other amenities include a playground and picnic area.

In the wintertime, Durango is known for skiing and snowboarding. There are five skiing areas around the town. One of the most popular places is the Durango Mountain Resort. People can go skiing, enjoy the chalet or lodge, get spoiled at the spa and so much more. The resort has childcare for kids and can provide skiing lessons for them as well as for adults. There are great restaurant options for people to enjoy and beverages to drink. In fact, Durango is known as the "City of Brewerly Love." The Full Blast Adventure Center is a place where people can go paintballing, zip lining, and experience the sport of slacklining.

There are many shopping options in Durango. Historic downtown Durango has many shops for people of all ages to enjoy. In downtown, people can enjoy the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad & Museum. Kids and adults will enjoy the Durango Discovery Kids Museum. Folks can stay at The Strater Hotel and The General Palmer, which are two of the oldest hotels in Durango. Other shopping opportunities include the Durango Mall.

One of the biggest events in Durango is the Snowdown Festival. It is an annual event, which has a different theme every year. Residents and visitors enjoy food, a parade, fireworks, and other things. Men can get involved in a three-month beard-growing contest while women can compete in a three-month leg hair contest. There is a talent show called Snowdown Follies that people enjoy every year. Other events include the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown, Music in the Mountains, Iron Horse Bicycle Classic, and the Durango Railfest.
