Welcome to Durango. Durango has several historic districts that are a part of the national register of historic places. The main street running through the center of the town has several of these particular places. A family member interested in history may find a drive and stop over in Durango of special significance. Durango and Grand Junction are both on the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains. The architectural style of these towns is described as late nineteenth and twentieth revivalist or late Victorian.

The visitor will find that this town is part of the national park service. Fort Lewis College is in Durango. This college may be appropriate for any college student interested in liberal arts. The family high school student may want to consider a small college such as this one, if large universities are not to their liking. There may be more of a one-on-one experience with the instructors at a smaller college. The school sports and activities may be easier to join and enjoy.
